If you think joining the army or any other service similar to it, you’re going to be defending & our protecting our country, you are delirious and sadly mistaken. You aren’t going to be defending our country, and if anything you’ve just signed up to shoot a bunch of brown people and come back home with PTSD and a government that doesn’t give 2 fucks about u.

Most young men & women who enlist do it out of necessity; it is an absolute last resort. Four years in the army guarantees that they pay for you to go to college or pay off up to $40,000 in college debt. Granted enlisting during a war is pretty stupid but I know that most do it out of desperation. There’s also the shady, predatory recruiting practices which take place in underprivileged neighborhoods. There, they find the most destitute teenagers and cajole them with gifts, money, pride, and a sense of  “honor”. It’s quite sickening.

There are definitely those who sign up just to kill. All enlisted services claim to do psychiatric testing to weed out the crazies but I doubt they actually do that. They just want more bodies to occupy and destroy so in the end the ones that are looking forward to just that are put on the front lines. It’s literally one of the worst things our government does to its poorest citizens.

It also doesn’t help that most (I want to say all but there’s no way to know for sure) soldiers are put on scripts like Ambien, Vallium, and Xanax to help them sleep and kill without emotion. Have you ever taken Ambien? I have and let me tell you that shit makes you TRIP if taken recreationally. It’s impossible to be level-headed with an assault rifle on any of those drugs, even more so if they are combined. There’s also the fact that the soldiers to whom these drugs are prescribed often return home addicted, if they come home at all; most of these addicts kill themselves.

I understand your frustration and disgust. I certainly feel that way as well sometimes but often I just pity them. I just wanted to put my 2 cents in and give some background as to why people enlist in the first place, as well as the consequences
